As usual, Megan had weird dreams again. After we move past the catfisher in the closet, we jump right into our story. Travis Alexander was murdered in his bathroom in Mesa, Arizona. He was stabbed between 27 and 29 times, shot in the head and his throat was slit. The murderer was his ex-girlfriend, 28-year-old, Jodi Arias. The couple only dated for five months, Jodi was narcissistic and jealous, which is a very dangerous combination. The media couldn't get enough of this story as they kept revealing more dirty details.

Megan Hawkins :Okay, so first, I had a dream.
Hanna Hawkins :Wait, there's more than one.
Megan Hawkins :Yeah. Well, the first one super, super short. Okay, so I had this dream that I went to look for our cats. And monster was completely bald, and had tore off all the fur from this one tear body and was now like the white little cat.
Hanna Hawkins :Well, I mean, atleast his ears weren't falling off.
Megan Hawkins :Oh my god, it was so freakin sad though. And then I was trying so hard not to get super worked up and upset because I didn't want to get him worked up. So I'm like, trying to scoop him up and be all calm and I'm like, it's okay. Everything's fine.
Hanna Hawkins :Oh, my goodness. Did you sing to him?
Megan Hawkins :No, I didn't. I should have.
Hanna Hawkins :Yea, you should have.
Megan Hawkins :I sang to dad the other day. I sang the Mr. Rogers theme song and he did not like it.
Hanna Hawkins :Oh, why not?
Megan Hawkins :because he was trying to, like, talk political to me and I didn't want it. So I just started singing and he was like, do you not want to have this conversation? I was like, No, I really don't. And then I had another dream. Okay, so, in this dream, you're part of it.
Hanna Hawkins :Joy.
Megan Hawkins :Okay
Hanna Hawkins :that's always good.
Megan Hawkins :So, in my dream, monster and Frankenstein...
Hanna Hawkins :what is with you?
Megan Hawkins :Or if you haven't listened before, those are cats. So they were both in my closet. And you and I were in my room. We could see their eyes and they were in there. Then all of a sudden there was a third set of eyes and it does not belong to our cats. And I'm like, this is going Oh my gosh, what is it? Wait unless we get another cat, this animal crawls out. And it looked like maybe the body of a raccoon, and it was all black. And then the inside of the thighs were like striped white, like a zebra. And then it had like a really, really long tail. Okay?
Hanna Hawkins :what the fuck is your imagination, dude.
Megan Hawkins :Like, an opposum. And then I'm freaking out because I'm like, standing still ongoing. Hanna, what is it? What is it? What is it? And you go, oh my god, it's a cat Fisher. And I'm like, What? So you grab this fucking thing by the tail and it's hanging upside down and I scream so then you scream. So then this animal screams and it sounded like those screaming goats And then you just tore up the stairs and you dropped it off outside.
Hanna Hawkins :I mean in all reality though, like if that were to happen that would probably be exactly how it goes down. Yes. Because I am 100% the person that takes care of like crazy animals that like goes against them and like removes them and relocate them and everything and and I definitely scream when other people scream,
Megan Hawkins :And a frickin animal, that's called a cat Fisher coming in and trying to take my cat
Hanna Hawkins :Yeah, that makes so much sense again because here I am reading the board and wondering what the fuck Hanna's catfisher means. Yeah, that makes a lot more sense though.
Megan Hawkins :Mm hmm. So there you go.

I straight up will panic if somebody else panics just for the record, and that made me think of the time that me and Emily were driving down the road and she saw a person in the ditch. And for some reason it scared her because it was like pitch dark. And this was like three in the morning. And it just it startled her and so she screams and when she's like, get scared, or sees something, she freakin points every damn time she points at it. So she points at this poor lady in the ditch and is screaming her frickin head off. And because she's screaming I start screaming

Hanna Hawkins :This poor lady is in the ditch and all she probably heard the whole time was like you know a car going by with screaming girls in it and one of them just pointing out the window.
Megan Hawkins :Oh my gosh.
Hanna Hawkins :I felt so bad after I was like, you know this poor lady, but Oh, Man, I straight up a panic if somebody else does.
Megan Hawkins :yeah

Megan Hawkins :Well, it happened to my dream.
Hanna Hawkins :Um, yeah. Also, I had some dreams too, but I don't really remember them. I just remember running from people, except for one of them for some reason. Um, me and a couple other people accidentally killed somebody. And we hid them in a trap door that was apparently in my bedroom. I do not have a trapdoor in my bedroom.
Megan Hawkins :How did you kill them?
Hanna Hawkins :I can't remember that part.
Megan Hawkins :Oh
Hanna Hawkins :I just remember being accidental.
Megan Hawkins :Okay.
Hanna Hawkins :Yeah. So yeah, I have no idea how we killed them. But we for some stupid reason because like I know better than this. But we stored him in my room in this. Like, it was like under the floorboards It was super weird. And then somebody went in my room and smelled his decomposing body. So we had to go in there and move it and I couldn't tell you where removed it I can't remember but then like they came to search the house later and they were like what the hell? Where'd the body go? And I woke up. So you're welcome for that.
Megan Hawkins :Oh, ok, that really didn't have a lot of details. There's Some holes in your story.
Hanna Hawkins :I only remember bits and pieces of it, but when I woke up I was like, what the shit? Yeah. So there you go. Also, if I like keel over and die, it's because I was starting to get a headache. And so I took I only took one, one excedrin, and now I have a drink in my hand. So if I just like keel over right here and die....

Hanna Hawkins :yeah, fine. Just go silent. Maybe people should worry, but I was gonna say either that or Megan murdered me either way.

Megan Hawkins :Okay, hey, we've got a story today. On June 4th, 2008 30-year-old Travis Alexander was murdered in his bathroom in Mesa, Arizona. He was stabbed between 27 and 29 times shot in the head and his throat was slit.

Megan Hawkins :And Travis's body was not discovered for five days. Yeah, in this story, we already know who the murderer is.

Megan Hawkins :It was his ex girlfriend What the shit? 28-year-old, Jodi arias. All right. So let's do a little backstory on Jodi get to know her
Hanna Hawkins :I don't know if I wannna get to know her to be completely honest.
Megan Hawkins :Okay. Jodi was born in 1980 in California and had four siblings. She ended up dropping out of high school, but later obtained her GED and ended up moving around a lot as a young adult, dated several men and tried out several different religions. Jodi's parents say that her childhood was normal, but she had some mental problems. And they believe that maybe she was bipolar. Her father said that Jodi had not been open or honest with her parents, since they caught her growing marijuana out of the family's Tupperware containers when she was 14. Now I paused in there because I just knew you would not be able to control yourself when I said it.

Hanna Hawkins :I love it. That's I mean, that's freaking impressive for 14 year old.

Megan Hawkins :what month is that? Okay. In September 2006, Jodi met Travis Alexander. He was a legal insurance salesman, speaking at a professional conference for the company that he worked at prepaid legal services in Las Vegas. Jodi was an aspiring photographer and the two hit it off quickly. Within days of meeting Travis. Jodi broke up with her longtime boyfriend that she was living with. And she began a long distance relationship with Travis.
Hanna Hawkins :Okay.

Megan Hawkins :Uh huh. Over the course of their relationship, they exchanged 82,000 emails and they had sex within a week of their first meeting. Oops dad earmuffs.

Megan Hawkins :well, and just wait till you find out how long they were together. premarital sex was forbidden in Travis's Mormon religion. In November of 2006. Jodi converted to Mormonism, and Travis even baptized her. Their relationship was highly sexual. And some of Travis's friends said that Jodi was extremely obsessive. After just five months, the couple broke up.

Megan Hawkins :Jody moved to Arizona, where she was a waitress and clean Travis's home for extra cash. That's a good idea. She began lashing out and getting very jealous when Travis dated other women.
Hanna Hawkins :Wait, so she's literally working for her ex right now?

Hanna Hawkins :the dude she's still sleeping with

Hanna Hawkins :Wow. That is a....that's a situation.

Megan Hawkins :its not a good one either. So she slashed his tires and hacked into his social media accounts. normal stuff. A friend of Travis's, Skye, Hughes said Jodi would break into Travis's email several times, and when he began dating another woman, Jodi would sneak into the house and watch him sleep.
Hanna Hawkins :Oh, what the shit is this? This is so not okay. I do not love this at all.
Megan Hawkins :No?
Hanna Hawkins :I like how you just casually said some crazy crap and then oh, that's normal, just slashed his tires. And then you just casually jumped over it is done.

Megan Hawkins :Okay. When Travis would go to his girlfriend's house, someone would knock on the door and run. His tires were slashed twice. his girlfriend's tires were slashed. And Travis knew it must be Jodi.
Hanna Hawkins :I wonder who else it could be?
Megan Hawkins :Well, I don't know. Maybe he's doing that with someone else too.
Hanna Hawkins :Holy shit. That would be terrible.
Megan Hawkins :It would be, That's not funny. Okay.
Hanna Hawkins :was a little bit uh,
Megan Hawkins :she ended up moving back to California in the spring of 2008. Just days before the murder, which was on May 28, a 25 caliber gun was stolen from the home of Jodi's parents, grandparents, grandparents, and this was in a burglary. Jodi was actually living in their home at the time. Travis ended up being shot later with the same type of gun. Around this time, Travis had been planning a work trip to Mexico. He originally planned to bring Jodi with him. But his plans changed and now he's arranging to bring another woman.
Hanna Hawkins :Oh, my goodness.
Megan Hawkins :Yeah, this is not good for you. On June 2nd, 2008, Jodi rented a car from budget rent a car in Redding, California. She drove to Mesa, Arizona to see Travis She actually called an ex boyfriend to see if she could borrow some gas cans. And he was able to provide her with two five gallon gas cans, and she went and bought a third five gallon gas cans from the store before she headed on the trip to see Travis. On June 4th. They had sex in his shower. On June 5th, Jodi drove to Utah to meet up with another man. On June 9th, some of Travis's friends found his decomposing body in the shower. Yes, okay. And of course called 911.
911 operator :What's going on?
911 caller :Ah a friend of ours is dead in his bedroom. We hadn't heard from him in a while. We think he's dead, his roommate went int there and said there's Lots of blood. I didn't go in there, but I can give you the phone to somebody who went in there.
911 operator :Yes, please can you?
911 caller :Hello.
911 operator :hi. What's going on?
911 caller :He's dead. He's in his bedroom. Okay, in the shower.
911 operator :How did this happen? Do you have any idea?
911 caller :We have no idea. Everyone's been wondering about him for a few days.
911 operator :She said there's blood, is it coming from his head?
911 caller :it's all over the place.
911 operator :Is there any weapons around?
911 caller :I don't know. I have not that I saw.
911 operator :How many people out there?
911 caller :How many? How many are in the house right now? Five, five of them.
911 operator :I need, all of you outside.
911 caller :Okay.
911 operator :Hold on just a moment.Okay. You're a good friend of the Travis's correct?
911 caller :Yes, I am.
911 operator :Okay. Has he been depressed at all? thinking, suicide, anything like that?
911 caller :I don't think he's been thinking about committing suicide, he's been really depressed because he broke up with a girl. And he was upset about that, but I don't think he would actually kill himself over that.
911 operator :Has he been threatened by anyone recently?
911 caller :Yes, he has. He has an ex girlfriend it's been bothering him and following him and slashing tires and things like that.
911 operator :And do you know the ex girlfriend name? Do you know if he's ever reported it to the police?
911 caller :Her name is Jodi. I don't know if he's ever reported Hold on. No, he hasn't reported anything about Jodi.
Megan Hawkins :Jodi arias was arrested on July 15th, 2008. on suspicion of first degree murder. She initially denied ever being in Travis's home on the day of the murder. But photos on a camera proved otherwise
Hanna Hawkins :oops.
Megan Hawkins :Big Oops. Investigators found a camera in the washing machine that had gone through a wash cycle.
Hanna Hawkins :Oh my
Megan Hawkins :Uh huh. She tried to destroy that evidence. They were able to recover the images and found photos of the two of them in sexual positions.
Hanna Hawkins :Oh, ok
Megan Hawkins :There were there were photos of Travis in the shower. And there were even some photos of his bloody body.

Megan Hawkins :and it seemed to have accidentally been taken when the camera was dropped. Yeah, so when the photos are actually like kind of sideways, you know, you see his bloody body on the floor. And then you can see a foot like a shoe in the photo.

Megan Hawkins :There was always A bloody handprint that was there and to have both Travis and Jodi's blood. And some of Jodi's hair was also discovered at the scene.
Hanna Hawkins :Well yea, especially if they're like in the frickin shower.

Megan Hawkins :during the interrogation, Jodi says, this is a really trivial question, and it's going to reveal how shallow I am. But before they book me, can I clean myself up a little bit? The detective tells her...

Megan Hawkins :Yeah, he tells her. No, you're gonna be taken the way you are and he leaves the room for a short period of time. The cameras still rolling at this point, and then it gets really bizarre. So Jodi is sitting in a chair and starts doing these weird almost like sexual back bends. And then sings Oh, holy night.
Hanna Hawkins :What?
Megan Hawkins :And then does a headstand
Hanna Hawkins :The fuck?
Megan Hawkins :And then she whispers to herself. She says, You should have at least on your makeup. Jodi, gosh,

Megan Hawkins :She was obviously so narcissistic, and concerned about her appearance, so she ended up smiling in her booking photo.
Hanna Hawkins :Oh, no. That's never good.
Megan Hawkins :No, it's disgusting. Knock it off. In September, 2008, Jodi told several media outlets that masked intruders not the band attacked her and killed Travis. She said it was a man and a woman that murdered him. And then she was able to like fight them off and get out of there

Megan Hawkins :if you don't know who Jodi arias is, she's got bleached blonde hair and really Perfect makeup perfect plucked eyebrows. She looks great. And then all of a sudden she gets to court and her hair is kind of a mess. It's Brown, these huge librarian glasses. It doesn't look anything like her and then of course bangs she definitely tried to pull some shit.
Hanna Hawkins :That was intense.
Megan Hawkins :Yeah. So in court, her lawyer insisted that she killed Travis in self defense. And he said Jodi's life was in danger. Travis knocked her to the ground in the bathroom, where there was a struggle. If she didn't defend herself, she wouldn't be here.
Hanna Hawkins :Hmm.
Megan Hawkins :Jodi and her lawyer attempted to prove that Travis used her for sex and demeaned her throughout their relationship. Also called to the stand was Travis's ex girlfriend Lisa, and she testified that she felt used by Travis and he objectifies Her during the relationship. Jodi testified that on the night of the murder, she was taking photos of Travis in various poses. She went to delete the photos and the camera just slipped out of her hands. Travis stepped out of the shower and he body slammed her to the floor. He began chasing her, and she grabbed a gun and pointed it at him and just accidentally shot him.

Megan Hawkins :Uh huh. She has no memory of stabbing Travis or dragging him across the floor. The prosecution Argued...

Megan Hawkins :Yeah, so the prosecution argued that Jodi was upset after learning that Travis was seeing another woman and was even planning to go on vacation with her. In May 2013, a jury convicted Jodi a first degree murder, but they could not reach a unanimous decision on the death penalty. This meant that she needed a sentencing retrial, which was set to begin in 2014. In March 2015, the second jury was hung. And this ended up removing the death penalty from the table. Jodi was sentenced to life in prison without parole.
